Willie and Jo got married at Gabrielskloof Wine Estate, an estate tucked away in the Overberg valley and a mere 75 minutes drive from Cape Town on the N2. The Houwhoek pass on the N2 towards Caledon means passing and stopping at the Houwhoek farmstall to indulge in their home-made treats along the way!
I met Jo at Wildekrans Wine Estate, adjacent to Gabrielkloof. Wildekrans has 10 beautifully renovated cottages, which accommodated the fabulous guests as well as the lovely, now married, couple who came across my path. They were easygoing, down to earth, relaxed and a pleasure to work with.
Their wedding reminded me so much of my own wedding almost exactly a year ago in the month of May. We had a small and intimate celebration in the Overberg, near Swellendam - an eclectic country house with a beautiful rose garden and mountain rivers. Sadly Mardouw is no longer available to the public.
May is the perfect time of year for a celebration. I definitely recommend the month of May. It's the goldilocks time of year, for me anyway.
Willie and Jo confessed their love inside the little chapel on the hill (a hill with spectacular views) at Gabrielskloof. Thereafter drinks were flowing in the courtyard and guests could enjoy a bit of winter sun and crisp winter air. I love this time of year.
Also located in the courtyard, the contemporary Cape-barn styled restaurant catered to the celebration where we all discovered Willie's talent for public speaking later that evening. The groom had a lot on his mind! A wondeful talent to be so expressive with words.
Gabrielskloof is a darker shade of green as they are passionate about sourcing local produce from neighbouring villages and farms, which means indulging in good & honest, no-fuss, home-made food and the best wines in the Botriver valley. Perfect for any celebration.
Photographer and friend, Hansie Oosthuizen, had the glorious task of capturing the guests who were appointed to create the ultimate wedding cake, while I whisked the couple away for some portraits after the ceremony. The men indulged in some clay pigeon shooting of course.
A fun and eventful day and evening during the very special month of May!
